Written by Norman Holland for Queen Elizabeth II’s Jubilee – the play looks at the period of sixteenth century England, where Henry VIII had died leaving his 3 children to continue the Tudor line.

Edward, the heir to the throne was a mere ten years of age when his father died. He ruled, with the help of a protector and Council, until his death aged 16.

Now, Catholic Queen Mary, eldest daughter of King Henry VIII, reigns tentatively over the Kingdom.

Mary determined to keep the country aligned to Spain and the Vatican ordered hundreds to their death for not following Catholicism. This earned her the name of “Bloody Mary”.

Her younger half sister, the Princess Elizabeth who follows a different faith, is MaryÂ’s constant course of rage and conflict.

Elizabeth has a strong following amongst “the commons of England”, and becomes innocently and unwittingly implicated in an unsuccessful attempt to overthrow the Catholic Crown and replace it with a Protestant Head of State.

We join the play where now Queen Mary summons her half sister Elizabeth to stand before her accusers.

The excellent cast is lead by Narelle Stone as Princess Elizabeth and Hilary Guest as Queen Mary.

“Princess Ascending opens Saturday 19th July until 26th July at the Bendigo Bank Theatre. Tickets on sale now at the Capital 03 5441 5344
