AddressThe Loft at Chapel Off Chapel
A night of anthems – Opening this year’s Midsumma Festival is a one-hour cabaret performance titled “With a Twist” starring four singers new to the Festival, and to their venue: Chapel Off Chapel.
Our aim is to give each song a twist. A queer twist. We pitch the rainbow flag on songs that have lived in the shadows of the straight community. The girls will sing “You don’t Bring me Flowers” to each other and the boys may croon “Stand by Your Man.”
Most of the songs are camp classics, known to the gay community and the community in general. “Gay anthems” is the term singer Scarlett Quenette has given the song list. “We’ve got Babs, Shirley, Abba, and theatre standards… naturally, the choreography is as camp as the repertoire.”
The show coincides with the 1st birthday of Chapel Off Chapel’s Piano Bar, to be celebrated after “With a Twist” performances on Friday and Saturday.
