Kismet -The Broadway -Musical Arabian Nights- comes to the stage in a once in a lifetime experience. The romantic story of an impoverished poet who becomes an emir in a single miraculous day, featuring decadent royalty,star-crossed lovers and sensuous belly dancers.Against a backdrop of spectacular colours and sparkling, regal costumes that light up the stage, with superb songs such as "Stranger in Paradise","And This is my Beloved"and "Baubles,Bangles and Beads",adapted from composer Alexander Borodin and supported by a professional 20 piece Orchestra.
The cast features a number of well known locals from the performing arts scene, including David Coombs, whose work includes understudying Simon Gallaher in Pirates of Penzance and numerous film, television and musical credits.
Also featured is Catherine Hegarty, a performer with the Opera Queensland Chorus as well as Colin Harper's Pops Concerts.Linda Peach, who recently returned from a sojourn overseas,is Musical Director, while former Australian Highland Dancing Champion Lynette Wockner puts her exceptional choreography talents to work for Ignatians once again.
Director Ruth Gabriel says,"I think the reason that many theatre groups have not attempted Kismet is because it is challenging, both in the music and the way it is staged.I have wanted to direct Kismet for many years, and I think audiences will appreciate something different from the usual spectrum of shows."
