In a convent home for wayward girls, there is disquiet as the new, autocratic Reverend Mother asserts her absolute authority over her charges. Reverend Mother insists that a young nun remove a nesting bird from her cell and downgrades the duties of the older, much-loved nun whom everyone had expected would be their new leader. In the claustrophobic convent setting the sisters play out a drama of epic proportions as the forces of good and evil are unleashed. The cloister is revealed, warts and all.
