I have resisted posting on this thread due to past experience of backlash from speaking my mind. But I really do feel this needs to be said. I have read several times throughout the thread people commenting that the can't believe there is a site for something like this. Please note - this site is NOT for things like this. This thread is an unfortunate blight on an informative and helpful site that is a fantastic resource for theatre goers, performers technicians and enthusiasts of all kinds. The internet allows peole the opportunity to say things that they never would to someone's face. I think that is unfortunate in this case. I share the concerns expressed by others when discussion occasionally degenerates into acrimony... for the many that frequent the site on a regular basis or that have been long term contributors, it's disappointing to find our positive contributions being tainted by the careless and disruptive behaviour of a very few individuals. The community around the site has been, if anything, tolerant to a fault of disruptive and abusive behaviour - I believe that this reflects a broader tolerance for diversity within the performing arts community. I don't believe that it's my role, or any individual's role, to cut off discussion. Experience over the past eight years has shown that attempts to restrict or stifle discussion and debate often create a disproportionate backlash. However, there are actions that, as a community, we can take to limit the impact of some of these abuses. Register, login and moderate worthless comments down. I note that a number of members have been doing this; well done! This is our way of defining collectively what we consider to be appropriate standards of behaviour. In this way the standards are not an arbitrary judgement by an individual but a democratic process in which any member can cast a vote. Arguably, if you want to protect your investment in what we're building here, then it is your responsibility to vote. I'll do my bit by tightening up the moderation routines still further so that comments that have been modded well down will not appear at all on the home page and will disappear from discussion threads. It's probably worth noting that I regard my actions on the BBM thread as calling "timeout" on abusive behaviour - not moderation. Everything that person contributed prior to timeout is still there to be read. The length of the timeout was dependent entirely on the individual; who has never asked for their access to be restored and to my knowledge hasn't returned. I'm happy to discuss this further. Anyone who makes any bad judgment about Brent Street are just jealous they are not apart of the biggest performing arts family in Australia.....They have raised and taught the best in the country and some in the world and don't really care for negative artists trying to kill there spirit. wether its performers that didn't make it or just students that didn't have enough guts Brentstreet is a school and community that dosn't promise anyone a job at the end of the road. So i say grow up because the professional brent street team working in london, broadway, l.a, asia and australia are smiling at just how famous it has gotten that there are post websites about there home. As for it going downhill i would just like to say look around and if 50% of there students and artists are winning dance idol or performing for every major pop stars and musicals then there is something to be shocked about but until they stop winning every section at the competitions and you stop seeing there talent doing u.s.a tours there is nothing to say. As a former brent street kid i do now live in the states and without the friends and highly talented artists i have met over my years there i would have never of had the knowledge and generosity that i put on the stage and screen today. ok, so anyone out there who is a professional and worked in the dance industry, can you answer my question. i am concerned about building up huge muscles in my legs. i have been told that acrobatics and tap can do this. atm i am doing all forms of dance and feel that my thigh muscles are getting too big. i am in my mid teens. i get conflicting opinions on this subject. while i want to do as much dance as possible, i do not want to get too buff. any tips......? it was actually a ballet teacher who first told me that the dancers these days are getting too big muscles, but she did not tell us how not to, apart from do no other form of dance than ballet. any information on this subject would be very well received.

Have to agree with that one. How do the kids know what goes on in the Administration side, like how and when teachers get paid. What teachers are promised and what they actually get. Students are always led to see the good side. They or their parents are the ones paying the fees, why would any institution let the bread and butter know there are problems. In otherwords kids, your school is not going to tell you they are going bad. They want your money to stay afloat and are now paying a high price for losing good teachers. TDHS is the best school. I attend it, and is the most fun in the world. brent street has been decreasing in talent for a long time now, everyone who is considered their "competition" knows it..as i competeed against three of their troups today in macdonalds challenge i can say that their open class is AMAZING and should replace their full timers..their full timers recieve far too much praise for what they do, they all have big heads and no talent.

i dont even go to brent st and know that there full timers this year are AMAZING i dont know if your blind or not but they deserved to get into the finals!! they are not up themselves at all i think some people r just a little jelous of brent street and need to get over it because i think brent street ROCK thats why they win all the time

hello i attend tdhs and for those that are sick of reading about the full time for old people well this is one for high school kids i have been to a normal high school so i can compare it, i could never leave it is the best. the education is good too believe me and no one write bad stuff about me or tdhs. it is a welcoming school not a mean one, obviously like every school not everyone gets along with eachother but we all respect one another. It is small because it is a selective school but if it is full and you are a really good performer then you will obviously be accepted. i love it and if you are good and serious about your performing then come, oh yeah and make sure you do your academics as well because if you don't balance out both then it might not be the school for you cya P.S i LOVE brent street

IT does suggest how vile the students are and is stopping prospective students from coming to your school by reading your crap. Your facilty is missing out here, you are defaming your own school. Thankyou for standing up for us, I just thought you might like to know that the full timers did get into the finals (well one of the classes), It was the seniors who didn't get in that did the tribal dance,, we only dance like once a week not everyday like full timers... and to the rest of you, Brent St is obviously not going down hill and think what you like but we are a bunch of great people who can perform but we do exceptionally well in dancing. And whether you think competitions count or not they obviously reflect how good a school is compared t others around Australia etc and Brent st have won and placed in so many sections at city of sydney in the last week. I think its pretty sad that you have a website where people pay out brent st bu whatever

Dear MR Capital, DOn't get me wrong, i think Capital are very good but we won open age jazz at extreme and you came third.. we arent even full timers. We rehearse once a week for it. We won open tap at city of Sydney and are in the finals for jazz. Please get your facts straight

I started at brent st at the beginning of 2005 and i absolutely love it. Moving there is one of the best decisions i have ever made. I know everyone is different and i did know a couple of people before i started from eisteddfod and things but i found everyone to be very welcoming. After grading i wasn't put in the top classes but i learnt to work hard and this year i was moved up. After having gone to a few different dnace schools it is obvious that brent st isn't just about dancing it's about performing and being the best you can be (Jackie Howard gives a great pep talk) It also teaches you to confident in yourself, but not in a rude obnoxious way. I must say though, you do have to be strong and willing to work hard. Whats the point in pursuing something if you arent willing to work hard anyway? To all those being rude about brent st you shouldn't pay out a school that you haven't experienced. After doing extremely well at this year's eisteddfods it is obvious that the school isn't going down hill. Sure brent st were AMAZING 5 years ago but all the other schools started to copy all of their ideas so of course it seems as if otehrs are catching up or whatever. WE've changed and we are trying new things. I hope you all enjoy it. If you want your child or yourself to have a great performance experience come to brent st and see what you think. If you don't like it then leave, who cares. ANywa thats all i have to say right now, I love brent st and believe i will continue to love it until my time is up!
