Any good ideas on Audition proceedures?

and proceedures.
Basically Im a newbie so call me ignorant to all the haps of the acting world.
Do I just find a monologue from a play that sounds good for me and perfect it?
Is that the most impressive thing to do?
Maybe what I just wrote was entirely dumb and obvious but oh well.....
Everyones gotta start somewhere right?

i'm not a registered user so i can't create a new topic, but the SHOWCAST guide - both online and the books
what do you guys know about it?
in other words, is it worth spending the $100+ to get on their books and on their website each year?
basically - and i know this is gonna sound cliched, cos everyone asks it, but i'd like the casting agents who pick whose gonna be on aus tv shows like mcleod's, all saints, h&a, neighbours, to view my photos and have access to my agent's contact details and my acting cv
i already have an agent here in perth, but it's not solely acting, it's modelling shit too

basically - you know melissa george (who i personally cannot fucking stand, but anyway) - how did the casting agents in syd doing the casting for h&a all those years ago cast her - when she was just with a modelling agency in perth?
