Any good ideas on Audition proceedures?

Hey guys. I was interested in peoples views and ideas on audition pieces and proceedures. Basically Im a newbie so call me ignorant to all the haps of the acting world. Do I just find a monologue from a play that sounds good for me and perfect it? Is that the most impressive thing to do? Maybe what I just wrote was entirely dumb and obvious but oh well..... Everyones gotta start somewhere right?

not sure about SHOWCAST so can't help there but... I actually went for the role of Angel all those years ago and I was with an agency in Perth. If they are looking for a character nationally (rarely happens) but if they do, it normally goes throught a few different agencies and casting companies. damn height - was to tall lol...
