HELP NEEDED FOR YOUNG KID

Young Kid out of high school and looking to participate in musicals and plays. Did some amatuer work in high school plays but gave it up cause I was affraid of what kids might say but I want to get back in it. any suggestions where?
Please help me out cause I wanna do what i love doing and thats be on stage with friends
