Where to start?

Looking for experience in most areas of theater. My dream is to become a playwright/director. I haven't done a lot of work since 2003 (straight A drama/music student and directed some primary school musicals). Looking for anything to get my mind back in the game and to be around inspiring, creative and 'crazy' people who will in-turn inspire me :). So if anyone has any ideas on where I can start, that would be a huge help. I live in North Brisbane (looked up some local theater groups but wasn't sure how to get involved). I am currently studying English Literature by distance...I wanna get my hands dirty and do some actual work! (be it behind-the-scenes, theater reviews, anything).
