METRO ARTS INDEPENDENTS 2009 THE PILLOWMAN – 18 March to 4 April, Sue Benner Theatre, Metro Arts Presented by Metro Arts Independents and 23rd Productions www.metroarts.com.au Metro Arts kicks off its 2009 Independents season with multi award-winning play, The Pillowman, described by the New York Times as, “Energizing…a blindingly bright black comedy,” and by the Sydney Morning Herald as “…brutal and brutally funny”. Produced by Brisbane theatre company, 23rd Productions, and written by acclaimed English-born playwright and film director, Martin McDonagh, The Pillowman brings an eerie new tone to the words, “Once upon a time…” As Katurian, a fiction writer, sits in an unnamed building in an unnamed city he is interrogated by two nasty cops about the gruesome content of his short stories and their disturbing similarities to a number of bizarre child murders occurring in his town. The Pillowman is a challenging play with the most extraordinary blend of pathos and comedy. And with the recent debate over the Bill Henson case, it is also very timely in its themes, such as ‘Just what is the responsibility of the artist?’ For media interviews and images, please contact Frances Frangenheim 0414 510178 or frances@trillcreative.com The Pillowman Part of Metro Arts 2009 Independents Produced by Metro Arts and 23rd Productions 18 March to 4 April Wednesday to Saturday 7:30pm Opening Wednesday 18 March 7:30pm Preview Tuesday 17 March 7:30pm Artist Talk Wednesday 25 March – meet the artists for post-show drinks and conversation Tickets Adults $20/ Conc. $16/ Groups 10+ $12/ Tight Tuesdays $15 at the door Sue Benner Theatre, Metro Arts 109 Edward Street, Brisbane Book tickets online: www.metroarts.com.au or phone 07) 3002 7100 Written by Martin McDonagh Directed by Michelle Miall Executive Producer/Production Manager: Kathryn Fray Producer: Christopher Sommers Production Assistant: Amanda Bell Featuring Steven Rooke, Norman Doyle, Robert Thwaites, Chris Vernon, Emma Pursey, Matthew Filkins, Emma Che Martin Stage Design by Amanda Karo Lighting Design by Jason Glenwright Sound Composition by Chris Perren Stage Manager Whitney Eglington Assistant Stage Manager Timothy Wallace
