A NIGHT IN COURT - PLAY SYNOPSIS
Monday 6 October 2008
A NIGHT IN COURT (Judgement Day)
A NIGHT IN COURT is the hilarious sequel to A DAY IN COURT. Glanville Court is
closing down and the last sitting is being held at night.
The play opens with Anna Swythe (The Court Officer) and Judy O'Hara ( The not so
bright Short Hand Writer) discussing the matters for the final night of Glanville
Court. They are joined by Jaylene Bowden (Public Solicitor) who is now on the wagon
and has not had a drink for five and a half weeks. The Magistrate Gary Howell
presides and has an impediment in his speech. During the course of proceedings this
creates some very funny situations. The new Police Prosecutor Derrin Slane is very
competent but a tightwad with money. A number of defendants appear with some very
funny outcomes. We are treated to a not guilty hearing involving Dianne McIvor the
con woman who appeared previously in A DAY IN COURT. The owner of the 273 Cafe
gives evidence but she is not what she seems. Other defendants appear including
John Stacey, John Mell, Belinda Blackwood, Samantha Drake and the hilarious Guiseppe
Butani. There is also a surprise defendant at the end of the play.
There is an ongoing battle between Judy and Anna. One of them will prevail at the
end of the day. But which one?
Overall A NIGHT IN COURT is sad, funny and has an unusual twist at the end.
