Getting out

Over the last year or two, I've gotten out and seen precious little theatre. I've been way too involved in my own club, either onstage, backstage, biobox, directing, committee meetings or front-of-house. The last month I've made an effort to go see other stuff, and been richly rewarded. Even though I've been in rehearsal for my own show (plug, plug, click on the link at the bottom of my post) I have in recent weeks seen Venetian Twins at the Old Mill,The Stillborn Lover at Garrick, Beauty and The Beast at the Regal, The Birthday Party at Rechabites, and yesterday I attended session 5 of Dramafest at Old Mill, and witnessed three excellent one act plays. I won't get out for the next couple of weeks, as I'll be onstage, and am preparing for directing Melvilles first season next year. Getting out to other theatres is a great way to build a network of contacts, and keep an eye out for potential auditionees. I spoke to jmuzz after The Return yesterday, and hope that he may finally show his face at Melville :) On that subject, after seeing The Return yesterday, I sat and watched Last Train To Freo this morning, which has been sitting, unwatched ,on the Foxtel IQ for months. I wanted to see what had been cut to fit it into the required 45 mins, and, may I say, I don't think it lost anything in the abridged version. I prefered the stage ending, which saw Maureen stay on the train, to, I'm assuming, return to her husband. Is this "the return" to which the title refers? Or is it the reliving of the Tall Thug's crime and the reason for it? Fantastic show people.....congrats. www.meltheco.org.au
