Now that I have your attention, you flithy perverts... Welcome to the Birthday Party – leave reality at the door. Clothes optional. If you don’t come to see The Birthday Party at the Rechabites Hall this September, director and producer Peter Clark will have his car and house repossessed. Do you want that on your conscience? I didn’t think so. Peter Clark has fronted his own money to relaunch one of the most exciting theatrical experiences of 2007, Harold Pinter’s, The Birthday Party. So reward Peter by coming along to see it. First performed in 1958, this dark comedy has stood the test of time, captivating audiences with its treatment of menace and mystery. But that’s not the only reason you should see this show. Having seen the GRADS production last year, I can honestly say that it was one of the best shows I saw that year. And that’s including professional and semi-professional productions. And for those who think I have some invested interest in this show, guess again. I have nothing to do with it. I know some of the people in it, but besides that I merely want to promote a fantastic piece of theatre. The production values are sleek, the direction is quirky and thought provoking and the ensemble performance made me envious I wasn’t up there with them. It features the talents of Eddie Stowers, David Gregory, Martin Lindsay, Phil Mackenzie, Jacqui Warner & Nyree Hughes. This production follows the successful production of Ibsen’s Ghosts, directed by Clark at Darlington Theatre Players. Do you remember the one where the woman masturbates on the leg of a chair? Yes, it was awesome. To give you an idea what you’re likely to expect in the up coming Birthday Party, have a look at the review for Ghosts: http://www.theatre.asn.au/theatre_reviews/ghosts_a_real_review. You can catch the Birthday Party at Rechabites Hall, in Northbridge between the 17th and 27th of September. Book through Bocs (9494-1133) or just show up at the door.
