Full length Farce in four acts
Seventeen Female, Five Male
Fanny is a vaudeville singer whose stardom allows her to mix in fashionable circles. She marries an English nobleman and moves into his castle. The comic action of the plot revolves around avoidance of her shady past being discovered. Things go horribly awry in the third act when her former manager pays a visit with twelve of her fellow chorus girls, representing all corners of the commonwealth on which the sun never sets. The real trouble starts when she realizes she is related to almost all of her household staff.
If you don't enjoy watching period shows like "Downton Abbey" or "Miss Fisher" then you might not like the extravagant wealth of the setting, or the veteran uppity tone of the dialogue. There is no minimizing the age of public domain plays, the dilemna about whether they ought to be modernized or scrapped is a question of taste. If your starting point is royalty free, I can recommend exploring comedy by this author. Jerome K Jerome was the author of nine plays, At least one of which was filmed twice.
