The Kookaburra Kids Australian Musical Theatre for Primary School, Middle School or Youth Theatre By Judith Prior
Saturday 18 May 2013
“The Kookaburra Kids” by Judith Prior.
A new musical theatre piece
for Youth Theatre, Primary or Middle Schools
Twenty-five speaking parts and chorus.
Some doubling possible.
I have fond memories of my excitement at being dressed as a tree for my very first school concert at five years of age. I thought at the time I had been given the important part because I was tall for my age but later ventures into stage productions confirmed the fact that as I really can’t act or sing..... and choreography is entirely beyond my comprehension, casting me as the tree was a brilliant choice by the school teacher director.
I eventually found my niche in musical theatre through playing in the orchestra pit, sewing costumes, painting backdrops and script writing which has kept me involved in musical theatre (although mercifully off the stage) for over forty years now.
My Theatre Restaurant scripts remain popular and continue to do well as fundraisers for community theatre groups and schools and my two juke box school musicals “Rockin’ Robin” and “What’s New Pussycat” all handled by David Spicer Productions have been well received with performances all over Australia and productions in USA, New Zealand and the UK.
My latest script “The Kookaburra Kids” is written especially for primary or middle schools. Simple set. Simple costuming. Easy to learn and sing song choices with sheet music provided as well as a great CD of backing tracks for schools without a music department make this show the perfect vehicle for any group of young performers.
