SA Writers Theatre 2012 One Act Play Competition 2011 winners: Judges Choice: Selena Carr’s “Thread for thought.” Peoples Choice: Flora Gaugg’s “If These walls could...” Following the success of the 2011 competition the South Australian Writers’ Theatre (SAWT) is pleased to announce its 2012 One Act Play competition. SAWT is keen to encourage emerging writers to explore the possibilities in writing for the stage and is promoting this competition to find the SA playwrights of tomorrow. The three short listed plays will be presented at a rehearsed reading in October 2012. SAWT has been operating in SA since 1985. New works are put through a process of readings and workshops culminating in a rehearsed reading. Several of these rehearsed readings take place each year. SAWT also presents full scale productions when suitable work is available either on its own or in association with a production company. At the 2010 Fringe Festival SAWT and Spotlight Theatre Co presented Ross Barrett’s “Final Round”. In 2011 they were co-producers of James Majur’s play about the plight of young Sudanese women, “Broken Pot”. The competition is now open and entries will be accepted until 5.00pm on 24th August 2012. There is no specific theme for this competition. A small entry fee of $10 will be charged to cover administrative costs. This amount must be paid within 7 days of the electronic lodgement of the script. If the payment is not received the script will not be considered. The judging panel will be drawn from the Arts Community in SA and will consist of experienced playwrights and directors. Further information can be obtained by contacting Tony Moore at: sawtcomp@sawt.org.au.
