HELL BENT the Musical.

Colin Herbert

Thursday 20 October 2011

I Have written a Musical 'HELL BENT' it is an entirely original work and I have written the book, music and lyrics. It is currently scheduled to premier September next year at the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre. In the opinion of the local music theatre community it is an outstanding work however...... while I have written the chord structures to all compositions I don't read or write music very well and am looking for someone (a musical director?) to collaborate with me to complete this. The following brief synopsis provides the basics of the story. HELL BENT – THE MUSICAL: The ‘Souls’ of an apparently recently deceased and disparate group of individuals find themselves in the ‘here-after’ world of Purgatory where Lucifer (Lucy) has set up shop waiting to ensnare and enrol such souls into his demonic legions. With severe dissosociative identity disorder Lucifer continually struggles with various alter egos. He expresses his friendship to the group only to then conversely set out his planned judgement of their alleged sins by trial and tribulation. With Lucifer championed by his horde of demons the only person who can save the Lost Souls from themselves is a priest also in purgatory with his own specific demons to confront. Luring them into his Garden of Devilish Delights Lucifer entices the Lost Souls to indulge in the full range of earthly addictions on display and winning some to his side. Then in a final bid to recruit the last of the Lost Souls Lucifer hosts a surrealistic wedding extravaganza for engaged couple Becky and Jack which brings him into final confrontation with the priest and reveals a bizarre truth. The story is carried through in an almost total musical format.
