Beethoven
Violin Concerto (transcribed for piano)
Visionary Finnish pianist, conductor and composer Olli Mustonen returns to Melbourne for the second event in his survey of the Beethoven piano concertos with the MSO. He brings together the transcription Beethoven made for piano of his violin concerto – an equally glorious work and just as challenging for the soloist as the much-loved original – with the concerto in which Beethoven bid a dramatic farewell to the 18th century, and ushered in a new era of heightened expression.
