SYNOPSIS

A Sound Awake depicts the life and the struggle for survival by two
individuals, Oscar and Audrey, as they co-exist within a world befallen by
chaos and a cacophony of noise. Individually they both have their reasons
for remaining together as they cope with the daily struggle to maintain
their existence. They each fill the voids within the others character, life
and personality intricately tying their two lives together.
Audrey who plays upon her helplessness and fragility depends upon Oscar to
provide for her while she remains cocooned within their sound proofed living
quarters. In turn Oscar relies upon Audrey to ease the loss he has suffered.

The world in which they exist is a familiar one, however it is now decayed
and a fragmented version of the past. The environment is engulfed by an
impending soundscape of noise. This noise, as it becomes louder and louder,
pushes Oscar and Audrey to the extremes of their fight for survival. A
Sound Awake explores the inner struggles of Oscar and Audrey, the
fragility of their relationship, the way in which their world has shaped
their lives and how it will ultimately decide their fate for them

Personality

Audrey must struggle to survive within her post-apocalyptic surroundings.
Audrey dislikes sound and the worlds environment has as enormous
problem with sound pollution. Luckily she has found Oscar, whom she can rely
upon to fulfil her daily needs while she remains within their soundproofed
living quarters. Audrey also only ever communicates with Oscar through sign
language, making her appear to be even more fragile and helpless than she
actually is. She does however have the ability to talk. Audrey realises she
is filling a void within OscarÂ’s life because he has lost his fiancee
and unborn child. She uses this knowledge to subtly manipulate Oscar into
remaining with her despite the impeding noise problem. She has a childlike
selfishness that she does not fully consider the effect of, until, through
the course of the film, she discovers the ultimate consequences of her
behaviour
