REQUIREMENTS:
We are looking for males and females to play characters in their early to late twenties.
Naturally singers are preferred (although not every character sings).
Each audition will have a singing element. You may choose to either prepare a piece, or trust our competent musical director to take you through a random piece of his choosing.
RISKY LUNAR LOVE is a full length original musical that is written by Luke Milton (Good Common Evil, Little Purple Happy) and will be performed at the RECHABITES HALL in September 2002.
It is a fast-paced, twisting, dark, irreverent, occasionally offensive comedy that will provide a large cast the opportunity to play some, huge, vibrant, pulsating characters that get to do horrible things to each other. It has fifties and sixties inspired lounge music, a retro feel, tikis, cocktails, exotica, swingers, hula girls and the occasional pirate. ThereÂ’s a huge fifties sci-fi alien whose head is currently in my lounge room. ItÂ’s a large, ambitious, adjective-inducing project where weÂ’ll work hard, have fun, and kick plenty of arse along the way.
We are casting early due to the large design element: costume, photos, print etc. ThereÂ’ll even be pulp novel inspired trading cards. You want to be on a trading card donÂ’t you?
(Rehearsals wonÂ’t start until much later in the year).
SYNOPSIS:
Risky Lunar Love, follows the intertwined lives of twelve very unusual characters over the course of a single day:
BOOK is appropriately a writer. A writer of mediocre science fiction novels that all "happen" to, in one form or another, feature the same girl. A girl that will also "happen" to cross paths with him today for the first time in ten years. What Book doesnÂ’t know is she'll cross a lot of other people's paths today as well. This is because there are twenty-two of her.
Ex-professional skater, millionaire and womaniser KIKKOMAN SOY is a much more successful writer. Today he's going to start a cult. A tiki cult that will bring the swinging, cocktail drinking, Polynesian pop explosion of the fifties and sixties rocketing into the present. It's going to make him a hell of a lot of money and allow him to finally “disappear”. A task that would be made simpler if the ghost of a Caribbean pirate wasn't trying to kill him.
FAST already has a tiki. A tiki with the power to save her flamboyant, blind friend SLOW. A tiki whose powers are already sending disruptive shockwaves into reality. A tiki who can change things; quite possibly a disastrous relationship between herself and a certain wealthy ex-professional skaterÂ…
