From the pen of the greatest modern English playwright, comes this wonderful comedy about the petty, and not so petty squabbles of friends and family who meet to celebrate Christmas. Hilarious highlights include a Puppet Show and a midnight love scene that goes awry.
CHARACTERS: NEUTRAL ENGLISH ACCENTS THROUGHOUT
Neville: Late 30's, witty, easy going, somewhat selfish. Married to Belinda with whom he bickers quite often, usually over his indifference to her and the children.
Belinda: Early 30's, attractive, married to Neville. Appears level-headed and in control but is in fact desperately craving affection from Neville. Has a "fling" with Clive during the action.
Phyllis: Mid to late 40's. Neville's sister, married to Bernard. Neurotic, hypochondriac, a lush and a dreadful cook. Small role, but a gem.
Bernard: Mid to late 40's. A doctor though not a successful one. Married to Phyllis. Spends most of his time looking after his hapless wife. Shy, sensitive and easily hurt.
Harvey: 60's. Slightly military manner. Can be very rude. Exhibits paranoid behaviour. Obsessed with guns and knives. Believes that the fabric of our society is breaking down, a problem that needs to be addresed with armed vigilance.
Rachel: Belinda's sister. Late 30's. Brittle, insecure, has a low self esteem. Less conventionally pretty than Belinda and not very stylish.
Pattie: Early 30's. Mildly pleasant. Similarly ignored by her husband Eddie. Frumpy, very pregnant. downtrodden with the monotony of marriage and motherhood.
