The Caucasian Chalk Circle, a work of Brecht's maturity, is unusual in that it has a happy ending. It is a lyrical piece drawn from an early Chinese play, with elements of the folk-tale as the young Grusha faces many challenges in her efforts to save a child that is not her own.
We are using the Frank McGuinness translation which is bold and dynamic whilst retaining the epic storytelling of BrechtÂ’s original work. New music by Heinz Scwheers and set design by Barry French ensure an innovative production.
We are looking for 18-20 performers to fill the four core roles of Grusha, Simon, The Singer and Azdak; plus an ensemble of 6-8 actors playing various roles and 8 singers who will also take on solo roles.
Auditions will be held on Saturday 11 (singers) and Sunday 12 February (actors) from 10 – 1 pm at new theatre, 542 King Street, NEWTOWN. Please contact the office on 9519 3403 to confirm an audition time.
Audition requirements
Actors: Please prepare a monologue from any Brecht play other than the The Caucasian Chalk Circle. You may also be asked to do some scene work on the day.
Singers: Please prepare a song and bring along the sheet music as we will have an accompanist. If you play an instrument, please bring that along as well and play a piece.
