In 1986, a young American piano prodigy is sent to Vienna to regain his genius long since diminished. There he meets an unorthodox singing teacher whose eccentric but brilliant ways lead him on a remarkable journey of self-discovery. With Schumann's Dichterliebe threaded throughout, Old Wicked Songs shows us the joys of living through music, humour and great compassion for the human spirit.

Short-listed for the Pulitzer Prize, this is the exciting Australian premiere of this critically acclaimed funny but deeply moving play.

Chris requires two talented men for the cast. Both need to be able to either play the piano well or be prepared to learn to look like they can as the playing will be faked if required, and sing (although the singing doesn't require brilliance, let's remember that the audience has to hear it so an ability to sing in tune would be appreciated!). But the emphasis is on the acting and text - both men need to be experienced actors with both dramatic and comedic experience. These tour-de-force roles are as follows:

Stephen Hoffman - 25, American. Arrogant, socially awkward, highly energetic, passionate in his beliefs

Professor Josef Mashkan - late 50s, Viennese. Sly, jolly, mercurial, eccentric.

Rehearsals: Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7.30pm and Sundays at a time to be agreed. Please note extra music rehearsals may be called as required.
