State Fair

Rodgers and Hammerstein's movie of State Fair translates into a charming musical - with extra music than the film and a storyline that differs ever so slightly. (The main ingredients are the same.) The Frake family all go to the 1946 Iowa State Fair - in search of different things. Dad is hoping that his pig Blue Boy will win the trophy for the best boar at the fair, Mother has hopes to topple the reigning pickle and mincemeat Queen, Wayne is after revenge for the previous year's hoopla stall debacle, and Margy wants some space to consider an unexciting marriage proposal.

Meaty roles for the father, mother, Margy and Wayne their young adult children, plus Pat the newspaper reporter and Emily Arden the nightclub singer. (All singing roles)

Excellent chorus music, and an assortment of other great smaller roles (including the pickle judge.......Harry the boyfriend who gets ditched (!).......the barbershop-singing pig farmers and lots more!) both singing and non-singing. Being one of the lesser known shows from the stable of Rodgers and Hammerstein this is a chance to come and audition for a show where you won't be under huge pressure to conform to a pre-conceived famous movie portrayal. (There IS a movie to check out of course........but its not one that millions of people are familiar with.) An opportunity to be involved in a show that will be fresh to most theatre patrons.....something different, very amusing and great old fashioned FUN!!!
