AUDITIONS FROM 10.30 AM TO 1.30 PM Female Roles – Miss Mona Strangley – Central character, the “Madam” of the Whorehouse. Age?Old enough to have worked her way through the ranks. Strong acting and singing required (several solos) Jewel - Miss Mona’s right hand gal.Usually played by a black woman.Age?Similar to Mona (or older). Strong acting and singing required. (has a solo) Doatsey Mae - A worldly waitress at the Texas Twinkle Café. Age?25 plus. Strong singing and acting needed, has solo Miss Wulla Jean - Retiring “Madam” – mature woman.Will double into ensemble after initial scene. Shy - An innocent country girl. Age?19/23. Good acting skills needed. Angel - An experienced city girl/woman.Age?30 ish. Good acting skills needed. Linda Lou, Dawn, Taddy Jo, Ginger, Durla, Ruby Rae, Beatrice, Eloise & Amber are all of the Whorehouse ‘girls’. All have dialogue, need strong singing talent and good movement. Ages – varied (but over 18) Male Roles – Sheriff Ed Earl Dodd Mona’s love interest.Age?A match for Mona. Strong acting skills needed, also has a solo. Melvin P Thorne - A larger than life television presenter. A preacher type with show business instincts! Age?Any. Strong acting and good singing preferred. Mayor Rufus Poindexter Not only the mayor, but also a car dealer. Small acting role Senator Wingwoah Small-town Texas politician. Small acting role – can be played by same actor as Rufus. Edsel Mackey The country editor of the local paper. Small acting role. Governor A true politician.Age? Mature. Has a single show-stealing song and dance routine!(Only in one scene in act 2. Can be included in ensemble in Act 1) Cowboys & The male ensemble has many characters and appear College Boys (6) in several scenes. Singing, acting and some dance needed, plus at least one specialist dancer. Ages? 18 plus Businessmen and Slightly more mature guys with singing and small Town’s people cameo acting roles. Audition requirements: (1) Please be prepared to read from the script with a southern American accent. If you have already read the script, youmay choose your own passage. (2) Please prepare a song. You do not need to sing anything from this show, just choose something which shows off your voice. (A backing tape or sheet music needed) (3) The majority of cast members will need to dance; therefore a general dance routine will form part of the audition.
