The concept has been set in Australia with original music by Michael Orland. The music involved had a strong rock/pop edge. Rehearsals will take place Monday to Friday 9am to 6pm. All cast members will be paid for this production for both the rehearsal and performance period at MEAA rates. All cast members will be expected to sign a six week contract for the rehearsal and performance period. Understudies and Swing roles will be chosen from ensemble members as well. Please note that four lead roles have been cast to date. Liz Taylor will be playing the role of Patrice. Stephen Fisher-King will play the role of Edward, Scott Radburn will play the role of Andrew and Anita Hartman will play the role of Stephanie. In terms of lead roles, the roles of Laura, Tom and Shane are still open to be cast. We are also looking for ensemble members who will play a variety of characters. each ensemble member will have at least two speaking roles. We are looking for strong actors/singers/dancers to flesh out the rest of the cast. Auditions will be held at NIDA Studios on Monday 24th May, Tuesday 25th May and Thursday 27th May between 9am and 6pm each day. The Audition Process: As Laura is the leading character of the production, we are inviting women aged 18 and over to post an audition via www.youtube.com if you wish to go for this role. We would like to you to post an audition if yourself singing any contemporary musical theatre song of your choice. Examples of contemporary musicals include A Chorus Line, Wicked, Jersey Boys, Spring Awakening, Hair, Hairspray, The Wiz, Dreamgirls, The Wild Party, The Wedding Singer etc. Once you have posted your audition on www.youtube.com, we ask you to send us another email and include: 1. Your current CV 2. A recent headshot (black & white or colour) 3. The www.youtube.com link address to your post. When posting your audition, the director has advised that he would like to see a fully realized audition. Sitting down on a chair and singing to a camera will not work. The director would like to see your vocal abilities as well as your acting abilites within the song. If you would like to add dance within the audition (as the role is dance based as well), then that will be highly regarded. As this musical is set in Australia, we ask you to sing in Australian accent - no "American-ization" of vowels please. Once viewed by our audition selection panel, you will be contacted as to whether the director would like to see you for an audition for the role of Laura and receive an invite to an audition for this purpose. This audition will be held at 10am on THURSDAY MAY 27TH at NIDA Studios, NSW. This date and time is non-negotiable. If invited to audition, you will first learn a short jazz based dance routine on the day. We also ask you to prepare 16-32 bars of two contrasting songs of your choice that best show off your vocal range. One song is to be a contemporary musical theatre song and one song is to be a pop/rock song of the 70's, 80's or 90's Aria Charts. Readings from the script will be done on this day as well. Please note that ALL auditionees will be contacted in regards to your invite to the LAURA audition, regardless of your success in gaining an audition for the director or not. MALE/FEMALE ENSEMBLE AUDITIONS: Ensemble auditions will take place on the audition dates mentioned previously. Ensemble roles are open to anyone aged sixteen or over at the time of auditions. We ask you to bring your current CV and headshot to these auditions to register. Please email beaudy_auditions@live.com to register to audition. Audition times will be held at 10am, 1pm and 4pm throughout the day. These auditions will be male/female mixed. Please also note the lead roles of Tom and Shane will be cast from these ensemble auditions. We ask you to arrive at least half an hour prior to your chosen audition time to register for the audition. You must be repsonsible for your own physical and vocal warm-up. Each audition time will take up to 50 auditioners. Once registered, you will learn a jazz-based musical theatre dance routine as a group. Once performed for the director and if successful in passing the dance audition, you will be asked to sing in solo auditions. We again, ask you to prepare two contrasting songs - a musical theatre and rock/pop Aria chart song as mentioned above. If successful in your singing audition, you will be asked for a script read callback. Callbacks for script reads will be held at 3pm on Thursday May 27th. Again, this is a non-negotiable. As this is a professional production, we ask you to come to auditions prepared. If you would like to audition for the leading role of Laura, we look forward to seeing your audition on www.youtube.com. If you would like to now register for a time slot to audition for part of the ensemble, please send us your CV an headshot and your preferred time slot for auditions. Please note, that due to the popoularity and interest in this production, once you have confirmed a time slot for auditions, we will not be able to change it so please think carefully of when you are able to audition and if successful, if you are able to attend callbacks or Laura auditions at NIDA.
