Federico Garcia Lorca's RURAL TRILOGY. A play cycle of Blood Wedding, Yerma & The House of Bernarda Alba, three plays written by classical Spanish playwright Federico Garcia Lorca. Federico Garcia Lorca's exploration of the passionate lives of the women lost in Spain's epic rural landscape has been translated and performed all around the world. The RURAL TRILOGY drags you down a dangerous path through three harrowing tales of unrequited love each ending in it's own blood-curdling finale! Blood Wedding tells the tale of two lovers caught in the middle of their feuding families and a mother determined to get her revenge. Yerma is a childless woman living in rural Spain. Her desperate desire for motherhood becomes an obsession that eventually drives her to commit a horrific crime. The House of Bernarda Alba deals with a tyrannical mother and her five hellcat daughters all locked up during the mourning period for their father. Please note: This is an ensemble piece and each actor will be cast in all three plays in varying roles. ** This production is profit share. ** Roles Available: The Mother (Blood Wedding) Age 35+: Fiery vengeful widow, central female character. Strong matriarchal figure. Bridegroom (Blood Wedding) Age 18+: Emasculated son of the Mother. He finds his manhood by claiming vengeance. Death (Blood Wedding) Age 18+: A primal and sensual beggar woman. Wood Cutters (Blood Wedding) Any Age: Any gender, strong masculine character actors. Similar feel to the witches in Macbeth. Bernarda Alba (The House of Bernarda Alba) Age 40+: A widow who brings an everlasting period of mourning down on her house after her second husband death. She is ruthless and tyrannical refusing to let her daughter leave the house. Poncia (The House of Bernarda Alba) Age 40+: Bernarda's confidant and house keeper. Strong woman who is not afraid of standing up to Bernarda. Magdelena (The House of Bernarda Alba) Age 20+: Bernarda's third eldest and very religious daughter. She was her fathers favorite. Maria Josefa (The House of Bernarda Alba) Age 50+: Bernarda's senile mother who she keeps locked away. Important Dates: Rehearsal Period Commencing in May. Season Dates 10th August to 14th August at the Twelfth Night Theatre. Where: Brisbane Square Library Auditorium When: 18th of April (9am - 3pm) What to prepare: Each auditionee must prepare two contrasting monologues of no longer then two minutes in length each (please note you may not be asked to perform both pieces).
