Little Women is the story of four sisters and thier journey from childhood to womanhood. A beautiful musical based on the classic novel by Louisa Alcott, Little Women is an ensemble cast piece. It features 6 female roles and 4 male roles, of various ages. We will also be having a small ensemble that makes up the understudies for the show. The understudies will recieve two of the ten performances to perform regardless. The roles are as follows: Jo March (the second born)- A tom boy and a big dreamer, Jo wants to go to New York to become a famous writer. It is her ambition to use her fortune to support her family. (Ideal age between 20 and 23) Meg March (the eldest)- The most romantic of the sisters, Meg hates being a governess and wants to meet the man of her dreams. She finds him in Jonathan Brooke and must then convince Jo that while she might get married she wont abandon her family. (Ideal age between 23 and 26) Beth March (the third born)- A lover of music with an undying love of animals, Beth March is Jo's emotional anchor. When she dies of illness in the second Act, Jo doesnt know how she will be able to go on. (Ideal age between 18 and 20) Amy March (the youngest)- Amy dreams of high society and becoming a painter. She is envious of Jo's friendships and the fact she is not old enough to attend society balls like her sisters. (Idea age between 16 and 18) Marmee (Mother)- A mother raising her children alone while her husband is at war, Marmee tries to teach her daughters what really matters in life and must always maintain her strength even in the hardest of situations. Aunt March- Aunt March is the wealthy aunt of Jo's father. She wants to make Jo a woman of high society but has her doubts that this can be achieved. Ultimately she chooses Amy to travel abroad with her, much to Jo's dismay. Laurie (adopted brother)- Laurie is the young boy who lives next door to the March family. Throughout the first act he becomes apart of the March's lives and eventually falls in love with Jo. Sadly she does not share his affections and he goes abroad, only to return engaged to Amy. (Ideal age- the same as Jo) Mr Lawerence- Laurie's grandfather who puts great pressure on his grandson to achieve. He grows found of Beth and does whatever he can to ease her suffering in the second act, including buying her a beautiful new piano. Jonathan Brooke (Meg's love interest and Laurie's tutor)- Having fallen for Meg, Mr Brooke courts the young woman, using Laurie's connection to the family to get close to her. (Ideal age over 25- more mature looking) Professor Bhear (Jo's love interest)- One of the other boarders in the New York boarding house where Jo lives, Professor Bhear and Jo dont get along. They have clashing opinions and often fight. Only when Jo returns to Concord to attend to Beth's illness does the professor realize he is truely in love with Jo March.(Ideal age 30 or older) AUDITIONS PACKS CAN BE OBTAINED FROM POWER POINT MUSIC IN BOWRAL.
