Williamstown Musical Theatre Company Inc is proud to announce the auditions for their May/ June 2010 production of “BAT BOY – The Musical”. The production will be performed at the Williamstown Mechanics Institute from Friday 21st May to Saturday 5th June 2010.

AUDITION INFORMATION
Auditions will be held at The Williamstown Town Hall (104 Ferguson Street, Williamstown).
Entry via the Supper Room entrance on the left hand side of the building through the car-park.
AUDITION DATES
Wednesday 17th February from 7.00pm
Thursday 18th February from 7.00pm
Sunday 21st February
Auditionees are required to attend a dance audition from 1pm to 3pm
Auditionees may also need to attend Callbacks (only if required) on the same day from 3.30pm to 6.30pm. The Production Team will inform you if you are required to attend a call-back after your initial audition.
AUDITION REQUIREMENTS
- Auditionees must be over the age of 16 (at time of audition).
- Please prepare two contrasting songs from a musical theatre repertoire that demonstrate your vocal range and strengths, conveying to the direction team your complete abilities as a performer. No pop or rock songs will be accepted.
- Sheet music must be provided to the accompanist and all sheet music must be in the correct key. No transposition, backing track or A Cappella singing will be accepted.
- Part of the audition may involve the singing of scales and other technical exercises.
- Auditionees will be asked to prepare a read for the principle characters. These will be available on the day of auditions from the Audition Secretary. Principle auditionees are encouraged to arrive 15 - 20 minutes prior to their scheduled audition time to prepare this piece. All auditionees may be asked to present a cold read for ensemble characters / roles.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Rehearsals will be held from Sunday 7th March. Rehearsals are on Sunday afternoons from 1pm to 5.30pm, Monday and Wednesday evenings from 7.30pm to 10.30pm.
- There will be a compulsory rehearsal camp from the 16th to 18th April 2010.

CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS
Bat Boy (Edgar) - Stage Age: Late Teens - Early 20s
Vocal Range/ Type: A below stage to High B above stave (Tenor)
Edgar is the half boy/half bat at the heart of our story. We follow his journey from a primitive 'freak' to a well-rounded and civilized member of society. Edgar reveals the angst, excitement, pleasures and pains that often drive his choices and behaviours, while all the while maintaining the innocence and loving essence of the primeval urges he endures. This role requires a confident approach to physical acting and strong vocals are a must.
Dr. Thomas Parker – Stage Age: Mid 30's - 50's
Vocal Range/ Type: Bb to High to G Sharp above stage (High Baritone) The town veterinarian, Dr. Parker is a desperate man in a loveless marriage. As he sees the attachment growing between Bat Boy and Meredith, Dr. Parker grows to secretly despise the boy. Stong vocals and acting are essential to clearly depict Dr. Parker's decline throughout the story.
Meredith Parker – Stage Age: Mid 30's - 50's
Vocal Range/ Type: F below stave to Eb top of stave (Mezzo) Meredith is the perfect housewife who is often burdened by her role as Dr. Parker's wife and Shelley's mother. Meredith reveals complex character through a strong vocal performance. This character evolves through moments of clarity and challenge often brought on by her dedication to Edgar.
Shelley Parker – Stage Age: Late Teens – Early 20's Vocal Range/ Type: A below stave to G top of stave (Soprano)
The Parker's rebellious daughter and Rick's girlfriend who, through her experiences with Bat Boy, reveals a naive young woman driven to protect him from the town's wrath. The pleasures of this character reside in moments of brilliant comic timing and strong vocals.
Sheriff Reynolds – Stage Age: Mid 30-60 Vocal Range/ Type: D on stave to F top of stave (Baritone)
The town Sheriff called upon to handle and mediate the situation. He is always the mediator and brings Bat Boy to the The Parker's home
Rick Taylor – Stage Age: Late Teens – Early 20's Vocal Range/ Type: E on stave to B above stave (Tenor)
Shelley's boyfriend, and one of the adventurous siblings who discover Bat Boy in a cave. Rick harbours a hate for Bat Boy that he portrays through his own unique style of 'rap / rock'.
Ron Taylor – Stage Age: Teenager
One of the adventurous siblings that discover Bat Boy in a cave.
Ruthie Taylor – Stage Age: Teenager
One of the adventurous siblings that discover Bat Boy in a cave.
Mrs. Taylor –Vocal Range/ Type: E on stave to F top of stave (Mezzo) An overprotective, aggressive mother. Mother of Rick, Ron and Ruthie; who is dedicated to the cause.
Lorraine – Vocal Range/ Type: (Soprano)
A rancher's wife concerned with the towns livelihood.
Maggie – Vocal Range/ Type: (Alto)
A concerned townsfolk member and senior representative of the Hope Falls Town Council.
Reverend Billy Hightower – Stage Age: Mid 30-60 Vocal Range/ Type: E flat on stave to B above stave (Tenor)
Reverend is an over-the-top religious figure who provides comic relief as he leads the town's revival ceremony. A strong commitment to the comedic timing and characterisation of the role is required.
Pan – Vocal Range/ Type: E flat on stave to G Sharp above stage (High Baritone)
A forest god who presides over an interpretive ceremony. Must be a strong singer / dancer.
Ensemble (Townsfolk, Animals, Voices) –
Most ensemble members will play multiple small roles or characters and therefore require strong abilities in dance, vocals and character acting.
