Vocal: Strong harmony ability Movement: Good, sensual mover Range: G below middle C to C JANE 20s – 30s Description: Closed – old-fashioned – uptight – gentle – passionate about music – practices cello endlessly (alone) – perfectionist – would need to mime playing cello effectively –think of Bree from Desperate Housewives- becomes one of the three “witches”. Vocal: Strong harmony ability Movement: General movement Range: A below middle C to top C SUKIE 20s – 30s Description: Sweet, gentle, naive – a little bit ditzy – men want to take care of her, protect her – loves words, voracious reader & loves writing but would never admit her ambitions – think of Susan from Desperate Housewives – becomes one of the three “witches”. Vocal: Strong harmony ability Movement: General movement Range: A below middle C to E FELICIA 30s to 50s Description: Runs the town’s newspaper with her husband Clyde - hard, strong woman – ball-buster – husband Clyde is hopeless, like all men – control freak – paranoid but with good cause – a leader people fear but don’t like – central control for town gossip – capable of becoming hysterical. Movement: General movement Range: A below middle C to top C DARRYL VAN HORNE 40s – age is almost unknown Description: The consummate charmer – smooth – insincere – knows he is wonderful – loves the way he can manipulate people – the devil in silk – can turn on the charm, loves a challenge – capable of fiery temper and brutal revenge. Movement: General Movement Range: G below middle C to C CLYDE 40s Description: runs the town’s newspaper with his wife Felicia -long-suffering miserable – everyone knows he’s miserable – scared of his wife – jumps when she enters the room – always seems to be doing the wrong thing when she’s around – yearns pathetically for other women and some morsels of pleasure in his life of servitude – we see him make a series of weak attempts to kill himself. Movement: General Movement Range: D to D LITTLE GIRL 8 to 12 Description: Bizarre cameo running gag – drags a doll around –like a Shakespearean chorus she forewarns obscurely about the coming trouble – sings to the audience – but also appears as one of the townsfolk (part of ensemble). Movement: General movement Range: A below middle C to D ENSEMBLE The show offers wonderful opportunities for members of the ensemble to develop strong characters with continuity throughout the story. Bright cameos abound in the township peppered with an eccentric & eclectic community. All ensemble members will have lines in the show and some will have solos. There are many big company numbers. The ensemble will need to work energetically to bring the townsfolk to life in a series of company scenes and musical numbers. As a comedy, the production can push beyond realism in design & characterization – exaggerating and maximizing the potential for visual playfulness alongside the script’s wonderful dialogue & plotline. We want a creative, enthusiastic, multi-talented team ready to work for the fun & theatricality in every scene.
