Synopsis of “Death by Chocolate” Members of the newly renovated Meadowbrook Health Resort are dropping like flies, including famed chef Edith Chiles! On the eve of the grand re-opening, this is not the best advertisement! It's up to John Stone, the manager, to find the cause and the murderer. Delightfully sarcastic and cynical. Stone finds himself teaming up with Ed Parlor, mystery writer and amateur sleuth, in a wacky race against time. The clues point to a sinister box of chocolates, and the suspects include all the outlandish characters working for the resort. Character Descriptions Please Note: Ages indicated are reflective of the Character not the Actor/Actress HENRY MEADOWBROOK (Male aged 60+) The founder of the Meadowbrook Health Resort. He’s seen only briefly when he is shot at his desk in the opening moments of the play. ALFRED MELLOX (Male aged 50+) He is in charge of the resort staff, a position given to him by Henry Meadowbrook as he was his trusted family retainer, a very efficient servant. LADY RIVERDALE (Female aged 25+) Owner of Lady Riverdale Chocolates, and the new owner of the Meadowbrook Health Resort. She is the pompous, high society type. Except when she is required to use her vicious "street shrewdness" in order to survive. (Which serves as a hint to her mysterious past!) DYSLEXIA (Female aged 25+) Lady Riverdale's assistant and long suffering eccentric secretary. Famous for her unusual clothing choices. JOHN STONE (Male aged 25+) New Manager of the Meadowbrook Health Resort, (How he got there, no one knows!) He is quick witted and finds almost everything absurd (your basic cynical person) RALPH DEADWOOD (Male aged 25+) The Gym Manager, and all around sleaze ball. Knows all about Lady Riverdale's secret past, and has used that knowledge to get what he wants from her. MARGARET DANIELS (Female aged 25+) A very attractive woman who is trying to write a feature story on the resort for a leading gossip magazine. Or is she? EDITH CHILES (Female aged 25+) The Head Chef. A rather large buxom woman with a jovial personality and New England matronly manners. DICK SIMMERING (Male aged 25+) The Aerobics Instructor. Always garbed in a jogging outfit, he is a bright, hyperactive and effeminate person. SWEET PEA MEADOWBROOK (Female aged 25+) Daughter of the late Henry Meadowbrook Extremely overweight (padding will be required for this character), she seems to be trying to eat herself to death because of the trauma of losing her father. Her mouth is always full, so no one can understand what she is saying without the help of Alfred Mellox. ANNE SMITH (Female aged 25+) The resort nurse with a fondness for valium who tends to panic at the slightest injury. ED PARLOR (Male aged 25+) Guest of Lady Riverdale's, he is a writer of murder mysteries with a cheery disposition who enjoys the chance to play "Sherlock" and try to solve the deaths by chocolate.
