Audition Saturday 10th December at 3.00pm (auditionees required for approx 2 hours).
Cast:
Mavis - Tap dance instructor - 25-40 yrs old - ex pro-dancer.
Mrs Fraser - Pianist - Mature lady of indeterminate age, pessimistic, gruff. (Must play piano (badly)
Lynne - 19 - nurse, eager to please, reasonable dancer.
Dorothy - 25-40 - small, birdlike, nervous.
Maxine - 40+ - Shrewd business woman, born salesperson & talker!
Andy - Mid 30's - self conscious, timid.
Geoffrey - 30-40, insipid, self conscious (token male)
Sylvia - Mid 40s - short & bubbly, vivacious, ample curves.
Vera - 30-50 - upper crust, affected speech, fastidious, bordering on obsessive compulsive.
Rose - Mid 40s, larger sized, jovial non caucasian woman.(Apologise for the political incorrectness but .... we need a large coloured woman, preferably Jamaican)
Extras - Young woman & middle aged woman - cameos at beginning of act 1 and again as "Sugar Plum Fairies" towards the end of act two, also chorus dancers in finale.
Nigel - Cameo for stagehand (preferably male, tho not essential).
Synopsis -
"Stepping Out" is the story of a small, community tap dancing class and their growth as a unit, as dancers and in their private lives.
As the tale unforld, we learn of their reasons for joining the group, their hopes and aspirations for the furture and the trials and tribulations of their suburban existences.
Invite to take part in a Variety night, organised by a rival "top notch" dance academy, our girls (and Geoffrey) storm the stage to return home triumphant.
