Seeking young actors 13-25yrs for SHAKESPEARE production in BURWOOD

ASHFIELD YOUTH THEATRE in association with BURWOOD COUNCIL is calling for young people across the Inner West of Sydney to audition for a new SHAKESPEARE production directed by Julia Davis. About the play… At this stage, the play has not been selected. Basically, we want to see who auditions; see what skills they bring; their past experience with Shakespeare; how many male/females register… etc… then we will know! About the director… Julia Davis is a graduate of WAAPA and The Sydney Conservatorium of Music. Julia works as an actor and youth theatre director – having directed Ashfield Youth Theatre Leichhardt production “Love on the Edge”. Her previous theatre credits include Wars of the Roses, Taming of the Shrew and Much Ado About Nothing (Bell Shakespeare), A Moment on the Lips (Maelstrom) and Wilde Tales (State of Play/B Sharp). Julia's television credits include Home and Way, Love My Way, Small Claims and The Chaser. Characters available: Speaking roles are available for both male and female actors aged between 13-25 years. Previous theatre experience is desirable but not essential. The audition will involve group exercises led by the director and presentation of a prepared monologue in front of a group. What to prepare… Actors need to prepare a short Shakespearean monologue (max. 5 minutes) and are encouraged to attend an ‘Audition Workshop’ to work on their piece with Ashfield Youth Theatre’s Artistic Director James Winter. • AUDITION WORKSHOP: Thursday February 7th 4.30pm-7pm @ The Burwood Cultural and Community Centre - 47 Belmore St, Burwood • GROUP AUDITION: Thursday February 14th 4.30pm-7pm @ The Burwood Cultural and Community Centre - 47 Belmore St, Burwood Rehearsal schedule… Actors will need to be available for rehearsals on Thursday nights (4.30pm – 7pm) from February 21st – May 8th, school holiday intensives on Thursdays (10am – 4pm) April 17th and 24th, with production scheduled for May 16th – 17th.
