A conman is put in charge of resurrecting the Post Office. Perhaps he should have chosen the noose instead! AUDITIONS for ARENA's latest Terry Pratchett production, GOING POSTAL are on! We are seeking MALE AND FEMALE ACTORS teens & 20s to 50s+, for the seven principal roles and the 30 character roles (which will be doubled-up, etc). AUDITIONS will be held in hour-long blocks : SATURDAY 10th NOVEMBER,1pm - 5pm SUNDAY 11th NOVEMBER, 1pm - 8pm at the Perth Horse and Pony Club Hall, Herdsman Lake TO BOOK YOUR AUDITION, email simon_james63@hotmail.com or phone 9362 4080. Auditionees must be available for rehearsals Sundays (afternoon or night) Mondays and Wednesday nights (although obviously you won't be scheduled for all of these times!). PERFORMANCES will be in the weeks of 18th February to 1st March, 2008, at THE OLD MILL THEATRE in South Perth. PRINCIPAL CHARACTERS (7) NOTE : All Ages listed are Character Ages. And, as well, all Genders are Character Genders. Any deviations that you may wish to do from this Cast List, well, go on, surprise us! MOIST VON LIPWIG. male 20s/30s. (male actor) A con man. Charming, intelligent, cocky and scheming. Everyone Loves Moist! He is very good at his job. Now out of his depth as the Postmaster General. So also, thoughtful, desperate, pleading, hopeful, and thankful! LORD VETINARI. male 40s+. (male actor) The Ruler of Ankh-Morpork. The democratically elected dictator. A very powerful figure. Cold, calm, very still, very knowledgeble and very very dangerous. Has the best interests of the city at heart and likes to (subtlely) stir things up to achieve this. The hand that rocks the cradle. The hand that rocks the rocking chair. The hand that .. rocks everything! ADORA BELLE DEARHEART. female 20s/30s. (female actor) Campaigner for Golem’s Rights. Nothing like her name. Well, at first. She is hard, edgy. Striking in appearance. Bold, plain-speaking, and always cut-throat honest. Passionate and sincere, yet also severe, caustic and suspicious. A mixed bag of emotions, all of which must be shown and be believed. TOLLIVER GROAT. male 60s+. (male or female actor). A round stocky elderly postman. Old and bent, but spritely, albeit wobbly. The Holder of All Knowledge to do with the Old Post Office. Scheming, dutiful, conservative, and just rather ... odd. STANLEY. male character, in teens/20s. (male or female actor) A gawky nerdy Apprentice Postman, with an obsession with his collection of pins (like “normal” folk collect stamps!). Has a dark manic side that sometimes lashes out. Plain and loyal, but also quirky, twitchy, and with a potentially explosive side. MR PUMP. Genderless, Ageless. (male or female actor) A golem. A large lifeform made out of clay. Pump is Lipwig’s Bodyguard and Parole Officer in one. A thoughtful soul, with a punch to prove it. REACHER GILT. male character 30/40s+. (male or female actor) The boo-hiss! villian of the piece. Leader of the group of powerful people who own the Grand Trunk Company (a communications monopoly). A tough, nay, cut-throat, but smooth and stylish entrepeneur. Mean, selfish, manipulative, money-grabbing. Has an over-abundant supply of self-confidence. CHORUS OF CHARACTERS (30) [10 -14 actors] Then there is a host of other characters, which will be doubled-up, etc. All ages are open for all of these roles. And most are non-gender specific. Overall cast of around 20-22. TELLER. Female 20s+. (Female actor) The narrator of the opening monologue explaining Discworld. Articulate. Dramatic. And, er, rather patient with amateurism. DRUMKNOTT. F20s+. (Female actor) Vetinari’s Assistant. Dutiful, efficient, the epitome of clerkness. CRISPIN HORSEFRY. Male/Female 20s+. Grand Trunk Company owner. A loudmouth, undiplomatic accountant. GREENYHAM. Male/Female 20s+. Grand Trunk Company owner. A vampire. A stubborn bully. STOWLEY. Male/Female 20s+. Grand Trunk Company owner. A zombie. Thugish. Threatening. NUTMEG. Male/Female 20s+. Grand Trunk Company owner. A human. Thicker than two rather thick things. SLANT. Male/Female 40s+. Lawyer to the Grand Trunk Company owners. A zombie. Sophisticated and sharp and a stickler to the Client and to The Job. PONY. Male/Female 20s+. Grand Trunk Company Manager, that is, the one that gets all the work done. A “union shop steward” type of character. A Regional English Accent here would be good. IGOR. Male/Female 20s+. An Igor. From Igors R Us. Traditional lisping, limping servant to the villian. BIG DAVE. Male/Female 20s+. Owner of The Pin Exchange, a shop for magazines about pins. A bit dodgy in looks and actions. As if they were running a porn shop. PIN CUSTOMER. Male character, 20s+. (male or female actor) A sleezy customer. Plastic mac type. MAD AL. Male/Female 20s+. A revolutionary. Nerdy. SANE ALEX. Male/Female 20s+. Another revolutionary. Also nerdy. Perhaps nerdier. TROOPER. Male/Female 20s+. A public executioner with a philosophical yet capitalist outlook. WILKINSON. Male/Female 20s+. A prison warder with an odd sense of humour and a love of sausages. MISS MACCALARIAT. Female 50s+. A matronly prim & proper busybody bossyboots. SACHARISSA CRISPLOCK. Female 20s+. Earnest young female reporter for The Times newspaper. SPOOLS. Male/Female 30s+. A printer. An “off-the-shelf” generic small business manager. RIDCULLY. Male 40s+. The Archchancellor of the Unseen University. A bombastic wizard. STIBBONS. Male character, teens looking.
