This sumptuous production was a huge hit in 2004, where it was described as the best production of the work to be seen in Australia since the famous June Bronhill one with Sadler's Wells in the 1960's. Robert Ray has also directed this opera for Canterbury Opera, and choreographed it for Opera Australia, Dallas Opera, The Lyric Opera of Chicago and Canadian Opera.
