Prod & Prejudice

Auditions for roles in the one act play "Prod and Prejudice" will occur on the 22nd of July, 2007. To book a time, please e-mail StuartRossPorter@gmail.com or call Stuart on 0438-522-013. The play is a farcical comedy about a porn company doing a production based on "Pride and Prejudice". Everything is going along wonderfully, until an inspector from the Jane Austen Historical Society shows up.... The play contains swearing, adult themes, mention of adult toys and lewd shadow play. So, if you’re interested in auditioning you should be 18+ or have some parental permission. I'm also interested in doing a read-through the week before the auditions if there is interest. It’s your chance to see a copy of the script and get a feel for the whole thing. Interest should be expressed on the same contacts above (or when booking an audition). All parts, with the exception of Speedy, are open for audition. The role of Speedy is very small (admittedly has some excellent sight gags) with only a single line and was the carrot I used to bait my excellent stage managing friend into stage managing for me. Yes, it’s corrupt of me but at least I'm being honest. And he really is a great Stage Manager. Handle someone else’s prop and see if you get away with it. So, given that little disclosure, here is the list of roles. All ages are rough ‘stage age’. If you can play a little older or younger than you are, I'm happy to see you. Many of the ages will be determined by the people cast in the larger roles. The roles of Steve and Nikki/Nigel are the two largest, with everyone else (except Speedy) being designed to be roughly even. This play has been written to try and make sure that every role is a good role. The play is intended to be Australian/region non-specific with the exception of two roles, and accents should reflect as such. Steve (25 - 35) The neurotic director of our piece. Grew up in a porn family with a small list of neuroses. Reverts to a child-like state under extreme pressure. “Mistress” Melissa (20 – 35) Steve’s personal assistant and dominatrix. Plays the tweed secretary to everyone else, but is the controlling Mistress to calm Steve’s neuroses in private. Not an actress in the production. Nigel/Nikki (25 - 35) British inspector from the Jane Austen Historical Society, who is straight-laced and squeaky clean. Or are they? Written to be played by either a woman or man. Goliath (30 - 50) Well-educated accountant for the production company who also plays the lead male and does the work “For the love of it”. Steve’s step father. Cok on Ching / Svinga Lotta (18 – 30) Our lead porn starlet. This role is intended to be played as an Asian or a “Russian”. The role can be played either way due to concerns about making it too restrictive otherwise. Sarah (40 – Older) Steve’s mother and the scriptwriter of our production. Heavily emotionally involved in the script and in Steve’s potential future. Used to be an actress but is no longer in the porn industry, or a spring chicken, and is delegated to extra work by most directors. Tina (18 – 30) Proto-typical porn starlet. Has breasts that would make Pamela Anderson look petite. Don't worry, the breasts can be fake, your ability to act like you can't act and act like an airhead can't be. Speedy (20 – 40) Mexican work experience man.
