Blood Brothers, the Musical

This is an  audition notice for our November 2007 season of the Musical version of Willy Russells Blood Brothers.

Date: SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 15th  Time:  2 pm onwards

This is the first year that this musical by Willy Russell (Educating Rita, Shirley Valentine) has been released for amateur rights and it will be therefore a completely new and exciting musical experience for Perth in community theatre.

We need 3 female and 5 male Principals and a chorus, all of whom will be expected to be versatile enough to portray several characters. Principals include 2 young males, as the non-identical twins. They must be able to play convincing 7 and 14 year olds as well as their final ages of about 20

Blood Brothers is a rags to riches story that makes a haunting musical tragedy of our times. SNOPSIS: Mrs Johnstone. deserted by her husband and with a household full of kids to feed learns that she is expecting twins. She cannot afford to keep them and when one of the women for whom she does housework  learns of this begs one of the babies from her, being childless herself. The two boys grow up streets apart, not knowing of their relationship. They become friends and even fall for the same girl, despite the adoptive mother trying to keep them apart . Mickey the unadopted one turns to crime, Edward goes to university and prospers. A Narrator, intruding like fate warns that " a price has to be paid" The price is the life of the blood brothers, who die, Edward at the hands of Mickey and Mickey at the hands of the police - thus fulfilling the prophecy that twins parted at birth will die on the day they find out their heritage

CAST:

Mrs Johnstone (mother) 30-40 needs to be a strong actor, Mezzo voice

Narrator: male 30-50 Tenor (also appears as various charactes throughout the story)

Mrs Lyons: 30-40 Mezzo

My Lyons: 30-40 Baritone

Mickey  (non-identical twin)20-30 Baritone

Edward as for Mickey but tenor voice

Sammy; 20-30 must be able to play 9 & 16 year old

Linda: 20-30 Mezzo, must be able to play 7 & 14 year old

Chorus: require good vocal ability and the ability to play many different parts.
