The Truth is out there!

ThereÂ’s a rumour making the rounds in the city of Ankh-Morpork that the dwarves have found a way to turn lead into gold. William de Worde has heard it, and a chance meeting with a couple of dwarves and a printing press with movable type proves it to be true. After accidentally creating the dyskÂ’s first ever newspaper, de Worde stumbles upon a conspiracy and must uncover the truth about who framed Lord Vetinari, the cityÂ’s Machiavellian Patrician. Two comic and Pulp Fictionesque hit men manage to complicate matters even further. Throw in a reformed vampire suicidally interested in flash iconography, a very proper young lady, a man with a funny shaped vegetable, a zombie vampire, Gaspode the talking dog, a missing witness of the canine variety, plus Foul Ol' Ron, his mates and many, many, more and youÂ’ve got, well, The Truth.

The Truth features, like all good Pratchett plays, a cast of thousands . . . alright, hundreds . . . ok 49, but thatÂ’s still rather a lot. There will be opportunities for the truly talented to double, triple or even quadruple up. The list below is only a guide, we need actors of all ages, genders and sizes.

William de Worde: Male aged between 18 and 25. The second son of a noble family, William de Worde, has settled into a quiet existence in the city, scratching out a living as a scribe and rumourmonger.

Sacharissa Cripslock: Female aged 18 – 25. A well brought up young lady who comes into the newspaper office to give William de Worde a piece of her mind and walks out with a job.

Otto Von Chriek: Male aged between 25 and 40. Imagine Dracula took the pledge and instead of drinking blood from gorgeous young virgins with heaving bosoms he drank cocoa and sang songs. A photographer who tends to end up in excruciating pain every time he takes a picture, Otto ends up working for The Times.

Patrician/Charlie: Male aged over 30. This is a great role because not only do you need to play the ruler of the city, but you also need to play a shopkeeper trying to pretend to be the ruler of the city. Requires someone tall and imposing looking.

Vimes: Male aged over 35. The Commander of the City Watch, Vimes is a copper through and through. He is uncorruptable, virtuous and bad tempered.

Angua: Female aged between 25 and 30. SheÂ’s a w . . . w . . . werewolf! For the purpose of this play however she will be in woman form. An important member of the City Watch, Angua is an extremely practical and levelheaded person.

Cheery Littlebotton: Female aged over 20. The Night Watch's resident dwarf alchemist and Dana Scully wannabe. Cheery isn't ashamed of her sex and was even the first dwarf ever to wear lipstick.

Mr Pin: Male aged between 20 and 35. The intelligent part of the duo known as The New Firm. Think Pulp Fiction meets Men in Black meets The Matrix and youÂ’re somewhere.

Mr Tulip: Male aged between 20 and 35. A big dumb thug with a surprising appreciation for the finer things in life, Tulip is also an unsuccessful drug addict who always has a paper bag of fine white powder and a spoon which is always some sort of flour, sugar, moth balls and so on, but never any actual drugs.

Foul Old Ron: Male age can be anything over 20. One of the Misbegot Bridge beggars. A physical schizophrenic -- his smell has a separate existence. Millennium Hand and Shrimp. Buggrit.

Gaspode: Either and any age. Essentially the narrator of the piece, Gaspode is a talking dog. Requires someone who moves very well.

Mrs Arcanum: Female aged over 40. Runs a lodging house for Respectable Working Men. Respectability is her lifestyle, religion and hobby.
