Blak Yak Theatre is proud to announce auditions for its upcoming season of One-Act plays. This year, in a nod of the hat to the best of British comedy, we have obtained permission to mount stage adaptations of Coupling and Red Dwarf.
Auditions will be on Sunday July 30th at 10am at the Blue Room. Bookings are essential, and can be made by contacting Melissa (melissamerchant@aapt.net.au or on 0404 913 018). All shows will be auditioned on the same day and people are welcome to audition for more than one role.
Performances will be held on September 13, 14, 15 and 16 at Hackett Hall, Draper Street, Floreat.
The Shows:
Red Dwarf - Parallel Universe
Following on the heels of the hugely successful Red Dwarf and Red Dwarf II, Blak
Yak is thrilled to announce that they will once again be returning to the Dwarf
for "Parallel Universe". This time our boys drive to another universe and meet with their female selves.
Roles:
Rimmer (mid-20s to mid-30s) - a fussy, bureaucratic bully obsessed with rank
and rules, who is at heart a neurotic coward (thank you Wikipedia).
Female Rimmer - exactly as above, just . . . um . . . female.
Female Lister (mid-20s to mid 30s) - the last human being alive Lister is a
slob. No . . . I mean really . . . think of the worst slob you know and times
it by about 12. Obviously to play the female Lister we need someone who is
female, sorry boys.
Dog (small role)- A person who evolved from a dog. No style, no class and able
to simulate suffering from fleas. Or have fleas, but to be honest we'd rather
you acted.
Hilly (small role) - A ditz, enough said.
Coupling - 9 1/2 minutes
If you're looking for a challenge than this is the one-act for you! Set in a
bar and centred around 6 friends (think Friends, but funny), we see the same 9
1/2 minutes played out three times with just a little bit more revealed
each time. It's going to be unique, challenging and (hopefully) hilarious.
Cast List - everyone in their mid to late twenties, possibly into their early
thirties. It's pretty flexible, but please no one under 20 :)
Susan - Newly pregnant to her boyfriend Steve, Susan is worried that she's no
longer sexy enough.
Jane - Desperate for a shag, Jane decides to try a dating agency and is a little
surprised by what they send her.
Sally - Having only just begun a relationship with the infamous Casanova, Patrick
(just ask him about his cupboard of love), Sally is not happy to discover that
he's planning to go away, giving her about 4 minutes warning.
Steve - Terrified of the little alien that is currently gestating in Susan's
stomach, Steve is struggling to come to terms with the fact he's going to be a
father.
Patrick - While there's no doubt he would like to stay with Sally and do 'the
excellent bit' with her later that night, Patrick's got a golf trip planned in
Portugal, what's a man to do?
Oliver - Women do not hate him, women do not hate him, women do not hate him . .
