MIRANDA MUSICAL SOCIETY INVITES YOU TO AUDITION FOR NO, NO, NANETTE (23rd April)
Information night Tuesday 18th April Como School of Arts
If you enjoyed our 2002 production of Crazy for You or were impressed by the tapping in 42nd Street in 2004 you’ll delight in the catchy tunes and stunning 20’s inspired dancing in our September 2006 production of No No Nanette.
No, No, Nanette, is a show that takes the audience by the hand and leads it back to the never-never-land of the roaring 1920s. Things were dearer, sweeter and sillier then, and so is No, No, Nanette the musical.
Many people will remember the 1950 Hollywood block buster entitled Tea for Two starring Doris Day. Not many will recall that the film which was actually about an acting troupe mounting a production of No, No, Nanette. But I am sure you remember Doris’s rousing rendition of Tea for Two. The story of No, No, Nanette the musical is a light-hearted framework for the music of Vincent Youmans and included in the score are two of the most famous show-tunes ever written "I Want To Be Happy" and of course “Tea for Two”.
In this musical journey perky young Nanette attempts to save the marriage of her uncle and aunt by untangling Uncle Jimmy from several innocent but ensnaring flirtations. Attempting one such de-entanglement, Nanette enlists the help of theatrical producer Bill Trainor, who promptly falls in love with her. The same thing happens when artist Tom Gillespie is called on for help. But soon Uncle Jimmy's flirtations become too numerous, and Nanette's romances with Tom and Bill run into trouble. Will Uncle Jimmy's marriage survive, and will Nanette find happiness with Tom, Bill, or somebody else?
