AUDITIONS ANNOUNCEMENT AUDITIONS will be held in May for the musical, “What A Man’s Gotta Do”, written and directed by award-winning singer/songwriter Andrew Horabin. THE STORY begins when five bucks clash with three hens on the streets of Northbridge and there’s some disagreement about the roles of strippers and booze in Buck's Nights. Lucy declares that Adam will never grow up and promptly calls off the wedding. He begs her for a second chance. She gives him 24 hours to prove he’s man enough to marry her. How does a man prove his manhood in 24 hours? What’s a man gotta do? THE THEMES of the musical explore mateship, marriage, work, sex, addictions, eldership, fatherhood, homophobia, violence and wanking. THE SOUNDTRACK is still in production but the music will come from such awesome artists as The Kill Devil Hills, Bobby Blackbird and The Bluejays, Tim Minchin Tim Minchin and Hip Mo’ Toast. [The recording has been supported by ArtsWA for Andrew’s solo Country Arts tour in June.] THE CAST requires twelve actors. All actors must be able to sing. All but the parents and grandfather must be able to dance. THE PRODUCTION hits The Rechabites Hall from Sept 15-30, 2006. AUDITIONS WILL BE HELD on Friday May 12 and Sunday May 14 at the Blue Room, Northbridge. THE CHARACTERS Adam – the boy trying to become a man in time for the wedding; earnest, eager, uncertain. Gazza – a homophobic, dark, violent, army-reject; occasional comic relief. Muzza – stoner, hopeless gambler, fool; pretty frequent comic relief. Joe – alpha male, seducer, man of few words. Stuey – the wisest and softest of all of them; the put-down and pushed-around kid. Lucy – the strong-willed fiancé who calls off the wedding. Shazza – Gazza’s loud, full-on, often funny girlfriend. Elise – Gazza’s soft-spoken, attractive younger sister (and the object of Stuey’s fascination). Kane – Adam’s arrogant, successful, patronising older brother. Peter – Adam’s distant father. He's just bought a new barbie. Mary – Adam’s possessive, quirky, passive-aggressive mother. Jack – the dying, abandoned old man who will help his grandson into manhood and rediscover life along the way.
