GRADS will be presenting the Brian Friel one-acter "The Yalta Game" at Dramafest.
Auditions will be conducted on August 6.
The Yalta Game: a one act play by Brian Friel. Based on Anton Chekhov's short story The Lady with a Little Dog. Set in Russia in late 19th Century. A mix of comedy and and melancholy in the typical Chekhovian manner.
The writing is not conventionally realistic. About half the action is dialogue, and the rest in soliloquy or narrative form. The action moves quickly through various places at various times, indicated more by the text than by stage scenery.
Opportunities for two performers:
Gurov, male, stage age about 35. A clever but disillusioned man who amuses himself with casual womanising and frivolous story telling.
Anna, female, stage age about 20. Shy, naive, but already bored with an unfulfilling mattiage.
By the end of the play, they have each matured into "a sadder but a wiser" person.
There are also opportunities for persons interested in ASM and costuming.
Direction will be by Lindsay Sedgwick.
