AUDITION NOTICE
DAMAGE THEATRE
The Brick and The Rose
by Lewis John Calino
in association with the Dramatists Play Service Inc. NY
Damage Theatre was initiated after the production of The Brick and The Rose was seen by two teachers and a school nurse at the Hayman Theatre, WA, who then enquired if the show could be taken to their schools for education purposes. And so in 2000 a successful high school tour was accomplished and now, by request, we are once again touring West Australian High Schools, performing a Perth season for the public (June/July) and then heading to the Melbourne Fringe Festival (September).
The play follows a young manÂ’s life from his birth, through his time growing up on the streets - tempered by gang politics - until his tragic death. The play is written as a symphony or collage of voices. In this production eight actors will play forty six roles while introducing vocal percussion and rhythm into the text to increase the use of soundscapes. Directed in a Brechtian style the actors will never physically relate to one another and will remain on stage throughout the performance waiting till their time to speak. This play develops an unusual performing style, with strong, naturalistic characterisation, and emphasis placed on the performance of voice. There is no costuming or scenery and only minimal movement. The other artists involved are: Adam Mitchell is returning from performing in London to direct the show; the actors are: Paul Goddard, Crispian Chan, Damon Lockwood, Chris Sansoni, Chris Taylor, Carla Kissane (from Melbourne) and Talei Howell-Price.
Our lead actor Andrew Supanz has pulled out due to being accepted into NIDA. We are holding auditions on the 28th of December, between 10 -4, at ACTors+, Level 1, 872-876 Hay Street, Perth (near Shafto Lane).
Male Actor - between 19-28 years of age with theatre experience.
Please call 0413 838 185 to organise an audition time - this is a co-operative production.
