Mon, 20 Sept 1999, 09:46 pmRe: Effie's Repertoire...I know that personally they very, very rarely did anything that I had anydesire to see.Now if that doesn't guarantee that the rest of the theatre going publicwould love it, I don't know what does...If they had been a flagship state-subsidised company, a la now defunct WATheatre Company, their repertoire would have been scandalously bourgeois, but Effie's was basically a private professional oufit, their bottom linefor choosing productions was (as it should have been) getting lots of bumson seats. And this they did well...I personally hope that their plea to Mr Foss was a last ditch effort aftertrying for corporate sponsorship et al. If they didn't try any otherstrategy before running cap-in-hand to Mr Foss, then, quite frankly, theydeserved to be turned away empty handed.Paul Treasure
