WARNING: This post may offend people of an elegant nature...So, what really is the difference betwen professional and amateur?A Professional actor is one who is payed to act, one for whom acting istheir job, their profession. An Amateur actor is one who acts for the love of it, often while trying tokeep down another job.So, of course the real difference between an amateur actor and a professional is not their level of expertise, but the level of committment that they are ABLE to give. But we all know this (intimately). Now, a chance to use my favourite analogy.Acting is like Sex...A professional cannot really choose their involvement, it is their living, their livelihood. They cannot turn down a job, now matter how bad, becausethey never know where their next job is coming from, they are, prostitutes.(Admittedly, some are highly paid courtesans, but others are whores)An amateur performs purely out of love and/or enjoyment, if an opportunitypresents itself that they do not want to undertake, they don't have to,because they know that the next opportunity is just around the corner, theyare sluts.Personally, I would rather be a slut than a whore. This also explains why, quite often, an amateur production, although not astechnically good will be full of joie de vivre and sheer enjoyment, while aprofessional production, dressed up to the nines, will feel as though theyare just going through their paces.Thank you for letting me share that with you...Paul "Town Bike" Treasure
