Host For New Show - Melbourne
Mon, 17 July 2006, 02:19 pmSorry, I've had tons of emails about this, my fault, the show is to take place in Melbourne. For
any Melbourne based actors, or actors who might be in the state on the second, I have more info
below.
We're looking for someone to host a segment on new show that we're producing. It's a panel
It will be a panel discussion with people from indy media discussing the news stories that
were ignored by the mainstream for the month and why. We are looking for someone who is not from
that area to adjudicate and host the discussion, to be the audiencei voice of sorts. Would suit
anyone who is politically and socially aware and involved.
You can email me at elingfish@optusnet.com.au for more details.

THE POLITICAL ROUND-UP: TREASON & TAXES
NEWSFLASH: Political and social themes return to Melbourne Comedy!
With all the comedy rooms, with all the comics competing with one another to gain work, is there any room left in Melbourne comedy for the voice of dissent?
There is now, as Anomalous and an ensemble of Melbourne’s finest political and social humorists proudly bring you Treason & Taxes, an investigation of all things Australian and un-so. The comedy night is premiering on Wednesday August 2nd at the Pony Bar, and will be brought to you on the first Wednesday of every month, in which we will see a rotating roster of Melbourne finest political comics and satirists strut their stuff on stage.
In addition to which, the show will feature more serious political discussion segments, with interviews with guests from local politics, media, and show business, discussing the relevant issues of the month. As well as a monthly panel discussion with representatives from independent media sources (like the Big Issue, Green Left Weekly, and others) discussing the major news events that were omitted from mainstream news for the month and why. The first show’s guest interview spot will be with the Victorian Greens spokesperson on International Affairs, Bob Muntz who will be interviewed about East Timor and Australia’s position in South East Asia. Mr Muntz has a strong position on the issue and was on hand in East Timor in 1975 when Indonesian troops invaded the country and opened fire.
The August 2nd show features an impressive list of comedians, headlined by Melbourne political humour guru, Mr Rod Quantock. Quantock is an old hand at Melbourne comedy. Not only as a performer, but for his work behind the scenes, helping to establish the Melbourne International Comedy Festival upon it’s inception in 1987, and continually producing new shows that dissect and analyse the contemporary issues of the day. Mr Quantock was honoured in 2004 with the Individual award at the Sydney Myer Performing Arts Awards, putting him in the company of people such as Geoffrey Rush, Robyn Nevin, Nick Enright, and Paul Grabowsky. On August 2nd, Mr Quantock will come down and once again add his assistance to help a new night in Australian Political stand-up make its mark.
In addition to Mr Quantock, the night will feature a growing list of Melbourne’s finest young, political stand-ups. Hosting the show will be edgy, social stand-up Tym Jeffery (2006’s Osama Bin Laden & The Tooth Fairy, actor, comedian, writer), and also on the line-up such acts as “The Bedroom Philsopher” Justin Heazlewood (Triple J), Michael Connell (Amnesty International’s Stand-Up For Your Rights, Oddfellows Comedy Festival, Corporate comedian), Mat Kenneally (2006 Melbourne Comedy Festival Comedy Zone showcase), Scott Steensma (2006 Comedy Festival’s Comrade Consumer) and Ray Isaac (2003 and 2006 Melbourne Comedy Festival, The Comics Lounge).
We offer all interested press members free entry to the premier of a new and exciting show in the landscape of Melbourne comedy, Treason & Taxes.
