Acting Classes in Perth
Tue, 9 May 2006, 03:44 pmHey to all.....
I have recently moved from down South (Bunbury)to Perth to be closer
to where all the action happens.
I want to know what acting classes are reputable and possibly what agencies
are good to go with. Im finding it hard to find out many besides WAAPA and
thats a little out of my league at the mo.
If anyone has any thoughts, ideas or advice it would be fantastic.
Thanks.

It depends on a number of things. What kind of training do you want?
University training, physical theatre training, part time, full time. Some theatre companies run workshops throughout the year.

Acting classes in Perth
Im most interested in part time beginner workshops, but for future references it would be good to know other options like the full time or uni training.
Also how is physical theatre training different to the other courses?

Useful Resource
I believe that a comprehensive listing of Training Services around the country would a powerful resource for performers. Does any one know if such a resource already exists?

I agree, however, I'm not aware of one that exists.
In reply to how Physical Theatre differents from traditional theatre, in breif, it spends alot of time on training the body to be active in a sense when performing - rather than being a talking head.
There is a one year course at 'Total Theatre' which specialises in Physical Theatre, and some other groups do it also.
University wise, the two big ones are:
- One at Curtain University, Communications and Cultural Studies, which you can major in performance studies.
- ECU (where I'm at). You can do either a double of Drama Studies and education, or a BA in Contemporary Performance (My course, yah! LOL) be aware though that contemporary performance is physical theatre cross with contemporary notions of theatre. Even though at times it is confusing, it is a great base point for all other theatre. Really multigrated.
Notre Dame might have a course but I never really looked into it.
Workshop wise, first, get in touch with BSX, or Black Swan Theatre. They are always holding workshops about something LOL.
Also, depending on your age, you might want to also check out Western Australian Youth Theatre Company - I think they have workshops to.
And a great source for workshops, this site. Keep checking it, workshop announcements come up all the time.
Hope I provided some information for you. Anyone, please add, or correct.

Drama Aus
I know that Drama Australia and their branches list universities and TAFEs. I have a considerable (and growing) list of links in my database, but it's probably not as comprehensive as the list on this site.
As always, try the 'oracle' - Google.
