Eagle’s Nest Theatre is currently seeking applications from interested designers for our 2006 Season of Great Tragedies. We are looking for a costume designer for each of the two productions, “Hamlet” and “Oedipus Rex”; and a lighting designer and set/props designer for both plays (to be staged in the same location on alternating time-slots).
The Plays:
“Hamlet” - an powerful and absorbing production of this classic play, directed by WAAPA graduate Jasper Bagg. This play draws on a wealth of knowledge with both director and lead actor having previously performed the play and studied it for many years.
“Oedipus Rex” - in an exciting new interpretation directed by Theatre in Decay's Rob Reid, Sophocles' drama is relocated in a 1930s Weimer Republic Cabaret. The classic play comes to life with Theban Elders replaced by a chorus of beard-stroking Freuds. Music and inter-text references to Oedipus at Colonus bring the dramatic story and themes of cyclical violence vividly into focus.
Both plays will be staged over three weeks in July/August in three different venues – Montsalvat (Eltham), Trades Hall (CBD) and Williamstown Town Hall.
We are looking for:
* 2 x Costume designers (one for each production) – to collaborate with each director.
* 1 x Set / props designer (for both productions) – set will need to be minimal, so that it can be transported easily between venues; props will be used both functionally and to set the scene/time period.
* 1 x Lighting designer (for both productions)
Details:
Performance dates:
* Montsalvat July 16-22
* Trades Hall July 23-29
* Williamstown Town Hall July 30 – Aug 5
There will be a tech and dress week prior to the season dates, from July 10-15th.

For our production of Oedipus the Greek classic is being adapted to the setting of a 1930's style German cabaret. Part of the vision is to use a musical ensemble. The musicians will create original music for the production as well as performing live in the show. Ideally we are looking for cello or double base, a piano accordion and a drummer.
